A little while ago, one of the LJ FF7 communities had a link to this adorable little sackboy!Reno amigurumi.

I went DUUUUUUUUUUUDE! ♥♥♥

Only problem? It had been about a quarter of a century since I'd touched a crochet hook.

At 7 p.m. tonight I didn't even know how to do a standard single crochet correctly.

At 10:45 p.m. tonight I have my first smiley sackboy head more than halfway done. :3

And it would have been faster if I hadn't forgotten a significant factor in my calculations: The last time I did any kind of industrial-strength yarnfidgeting, I did not own a cat.

Starting at approx. 7:05:
Cat: (yawn) (stretch) (spots the shiny crochet hook) ...whatchadoin?
Me: ...
Me: ...
Me: HOSHIT--
Cat: YAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRNNNNNN~~~~!!! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Me: AAAAUUUUUUUGH--
(insert bloodshed, mayhem, and much yowling from both parties involved)
Me: ...and STAY OUT!
Cat: No faaaaaair! You cheat, you lying cheating thumbiferous thing with thumbs that invented evil evil EVIL doors and it's not faaaaaaaaaaair -- didja hear me yet? Didja?
Me: ...
Me: ...
Me: ...
Cat: I SAID DIDJA HEAR ME YET?
Me: ...I think I could get to hate my life.

I finally gave up the notion of getting the whole head done when I stopped to look at the chart, moved my hand, made a really embarrassing noise, and realized that my entire hand had turned into a cramped-up painball and I wasn't entirely sure I could still feel my thumb. Note for next time: distribute the crafting over several days, not one soooooolid crochet session...

Still. Not bad for the first time I've touched a crochet hook in a quarter century. :3

ETA: Now with pictures!

Yes. Yes they are. You've now got me and a friend pondering various sack-incarnations of various fandoms. And I'm squeeing like a squeeing fangirl. I.. I feel so girly. o.O

(this is as close as I have to a 'shameless enabler' icon, I think... must fix that one of these days...)

Here's a link to the author talking about the patterns she mods, with links:

*dies* Oh, god. Cat + crocheting = disaster waiting to happen. XD

And I would say buy some cheap yarn to toss at the cat, but was all know he'd ignore the cheap yarn for the yarn you are using.

Congrats on getting the head halfway done \^O^/, but *whimper* to the hand ouchies. ;_;

Yeah, I had a whole sack of yarn I brought in from the garage where it had been living since the basement flood -- but the only interesting yarn was the yarn that was twitching. *headdesk*

Also, if I manage to actually do what I plan to do with Sackiroth here, the world will QUAKE IN FEAR.

(I want to sample some of AC!Sephiroth's sexyvoice-lines, run them through a Chipmunk filter to take them up into squeaky chibi range, and put 'em on a squeeze toy chip. However, among the several problems with this theory - aside from the sheer wrong, that is - is that I have no idea where to get programmable squeeze-toy guts OR what audio format they need programmed in OR how to attach my computer to one of them to get 'em programmed. So the world is safe for a while anyway...)

Now that I'm contemplating crocheting Sack-u Gyousou and the Sack-ho of Tai, I feel that I should enable the enabler:

Voice recorders for dolls

Audacity can change pitch with any sound file. So, just record what lines from Seph you'd like, and then run them through Audacity.

I hope this helps <3~

DUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE! ♥♥♥♥♥♥

That is AWESOME. The world is going to quake in fear! Either that or fracture something laughing at squeakychibivoice!Sephiroth, which is likely to result in a massive snit fit and several attempts at planetary destruction in fits of chibified pique, which may eventually lead to quaking in fear... mwahahahaha!

Oh, man, chibi!voice-Sackiroth would be the single most awesome thing ever. And I fear because someone has told you how to do it . >XD (Also, my brain points out that something like that would make a killing at cons--they would sell like hotcakes.)

And if the yarn is twitching, well, that just means it's alive and huntable. The non-twitching yarn, well, that's already been killed, so it's no fun. >XD

The only thing that worries me is the "subject to supplier availability" part on that web page -- I really like knowing whether something's in stock or whether it's going to be 2 months before it arrives. I can't get one of those physically inside Sackiroth at this point -- I can't tell where I stitched the head to the neck and if I cut the wrong thread by accident he'd unweave himself and that would be horrible -- but I might well be able to hide it in his hair, since I suspect I could hide an elephant in his hair, and then he could get different sound clips recorded in whenever it's time for him to say something new.

(It's got a 10 second memory, so it'd be just one catch phrase at a time... but having the ability to both record different catch phrases AND replace the battery when it runs out of juice are making me think that hiding a voice box in the hair might well be my standard operating procedure from here on out...)

Ahaha, the little goggles kill me. XD Also, "thumbiferous" is a fantastic word, and I think my housemate's dog needs to start using is.

Me tooo! (though how much of a theater geek am I that I saw the yarn insets and went 'you know, if she imbedded a circle-bent paperclip in the edge of some resin and pricked the edges for stitching through, he'd have SEE-THROUGH goggles and that would be EVEN MORE awesome and and and...' and then I took a few tangents through that thick stained-glass paint stuff and tinted water-based glues and then I realized I had no idea what stitch I was on so I had to stop and recount. But yeah. Goggles! ^__^)

Tangents are dangerous like that. XD

And that idea sounds perfectly logical and no little big awesome, just sayin'.

Pthbbbt. :P

The cat is currently sitting in a sunbeam Watching Me Very Intently. I have the laptop on my lap occupying His Space, and I am also crocheting (behind cover of the screen) around bursts of surfing and typing. Right now he doesn't want to give up the sunbeam and argue with the laptop since I blow air on his nose when he pesters me too much while I'm working on the laptop. Once the sun goes down, though, I suspect this laptop-as-diversion-for-crochet-action may lose its ability to perform cat aversions...

ah damn. JUST as I typed that he came trotting over and mraaaowed the 'pet me now or I shred your leg' mraow at me. I think I'm doomed.

*innocence!*

If I was there, I would pet your cat so you could continue to play with yarn.
