I have a CAT!
Yeah, I'm still allergic. Yeah, I don't know if I can keep him. But his previous owners couldn't keep him either (he hates the baby where their other two cats tolerate it, and obviously they're not getting rid of the baby, and I'm much happier with taking their cat than their baby, so it worked all round if my immune system can just shut up and deal). He's a very playful (and pointy-clawed and occasionally overenthusiastic) attention ho who insists I am not allowed to get breakfast in the morning until he has received his morning dose of ankle-twining and headscritches. But he DOESN'T howl outside the hallway door to be let into my bedroom 'cause I KNOW my allergies wouldn't deal with that, and keeping him fluffled down with anti-allergy stuff has worked for the past thirty-six hours, and here's hoping the trend continues.

All my life I've wanted a cat, but both my mom and I are allergic. Mom wasn't willing to give it a shot, and my apartment was just NOT laid out for anybody who had allergies to have any way of segregating a cat. But my HOUSE has a hallway door with a latch in it (which is impressive for this house, because all the doors are broken and my bedroom door DOESN'T have a latch in it) and if I can keep the cat in the non-bedroom section of the house and the basement, I really really hope it's going to work out...

In other news, I have also just gotten horribly horribly addicted to Naomi Novik's Temeraire series. I think I have to blame Meg for this because I think she was the one who first made a snarkpost about the interspecies wannabe dating and the draconic snarkcute and I've been curious ever since. And then there was the point where the remarkably well-educated but also rather innocent dragon was casually observing that he thought the ten-year-old girl was probably too young to go to town for the purpose of hiring whores and the poor traumatized very-proper captain was going '...I need to be considerably more drunk to finish this conversation' and heeeeeeee. ^__^ Devoured the whole first book yesterday, acquired the other two about 10 minutes ago, must NOT spend the entire night reading 'cause MUST get back to work and have my brain on target tomorrow after having been sick too much of last week (it's just RUDE when you're not only sick but scrolling text makes you nauseous so you can't even websurf whilst flat)...

anyway, random squeals of glee here! Hoping I can get through the other two books relatively fast so as to get back to ficcage some time this month, preferably before the great work logjam's temporary bureaucratic blockade shakes free...
